All characters in Halls of Torment have their weaknesses and strengths, so we’ve prepared a tier list of characters from the weakest to the strongest. In this old-school roguelike game, players need to pick the strongest character possible to make it through alive.

Halls of Torment Tier List

Before we move on to the detailed description of each character in the game, please check the quick overview of each hero in our Halls of Torment tier list below:

Tier Character
S Cleric, Sorceress
A Exterminator, Archer
B Warlock, Shield Maiden
C Swordsman

Best Characters in Halls of Torment

The game features seven characters with fairly classic roles and as in every game, some of them are just stronger. If you are wondering about which class you should pick, then our article will help you.

7. Swordsman

The Swordsman is the first character you will have and he is great for getting comfortable in the game. It’s very easy to play as him and his stats are average, so you won’t feel like you’re missing anything too much while playing. There is nothing that makes him better than other characters except for the amount of health. With a lot of HP and good defense, this hero will allow you to make more mistakes, but accordingly, his damage is not the greatest and his attack radius is small. Although this hero is pretty good, he will probably make all the heroes seem better than him. So let’s move on!

6. Warlock

Warlock could be ranked as the worst, but he is still more interesting than the previous character in our list. But he has much more damage than a Swordsman. He has a good main weapon and a long-range, but at the same time, he has some problems with aiming. Although his main mechanic is to summon creatures, even though they hit in a radius, they are still weaker than the main weapons of other characters. In addition, the Warlock sometimes has problems with late-game content and you will probably die surrounded by a bunch of monsters that you can’t deal with.

5. Shield Maiden

Shield Maiden is a character with a huge amount of defense, so it is very difficult to kill her. But at the same time, her damage is also very high due to the increased critical damage. She has two different weapons; a mace, and a shield. The mace hits enemies in a small radius, which is not very different from Swordsman. However, you sometimes attack with a shield that deals less damage but in a large radius and also pushes enemies away. Shield Maiden is really strong and you should play her, but in our opinion, characters with more mobility or damage are better.

4. Archer

Archer

Archer is a character with excellent mobility and range. She has a high attack speed, good damage, and her arrows pierce enemies. But in general, her damage is not very high, so during the game, you should rely on movement speed and positioning during the battle. So, in general, she copes well with waves of monsters. Fighting against bosses, you just need to keep your distance, but unfortunately, you will beat them quite slowly. She has great potential and you can beat anything with her, but she’s not strong enough to be among the best characters.

3. Exterminator

Exterminator

The Exterminator has no critical damage, but it is perfectly compensated by his attack speed and fire damage. He has rather low defense and base damage and also rather low movement speed. But the tactics of playing as him are quite similar to Archer, so it is very important to add movement speed to him and then he can bring a lot of benefits. With a good attack radius, Exterminator is great at dealing with waves of enemies and stands well against bosses, dealing gradual fire damage.

2. Sorceress

Sorceress

Sorceress is a character with extremely poor survivability, but she has many more advantages. The first one is good mobility which allows skilled players to avoid almost any damage. But her biggest advantage is lightning, which has good critical damage and hits enemies in a good radius. At the same time, it depends on Piercing, so level it up. Even against bosses, Sorceress shows very good results. It is also important that her damage is good at all stages of the game and does not get worse as Warlocks does.

1. Cleric

Cleric is a slow character with a low attack speed but it is fully compensated by its damage. Its attacks hit in the middle radius and the damage is spread between each enemy hit. This sounds like it will be a bit weak, but Cleric’s damage can be really huge, so he is extremely effective against multiple targets or bosses.
