The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features an extensive suite of new powers and abilities for players to seek out and earn. Each of these powers is new, and none of the skills from Breath of the Wild carry over into Links’ long-anticipated return to Hyrule. This guide will break down all powers and abilities in Tears of the Kingdom.
All Powers in Tears of the Kingdom and How to Get Them
The radial menu for powers contains eight distinct abilities, although some are shortcuts and not powers per se. The main powers you will unlock for Link are earned through Shrines or hidden quests. This is every ability in the game and how to unlock them.
Amiibo and Map
These “powers” are unlocked by default on the ability wheel and do precisely what they say. The Amiibo power lets you scan any Amiibo you have for some free items or unlocks, while the Map ability…is a shortcut to open up the map.
Ascend
The Ascend power allows Link to travel through solid objects and surfaces. For example, if you’re in a cave and want a quick way up, use Ascend to climb through the ceiling and reach the top of the mountain above. The Ascend ability in Tears of the Kingdom can be unlocked by completing the Gutanbac Shrine on the Great Sky Island. This location is where the game begins.
Autobuild
This power is unique because you won’t earn this by following the main story quests. It is entirely optional and hidden. To earn this quest, you must venture deep underground into the Depths and fight Master Kohga, the leader of the Yiga clan. This ability lets Link quickly build anything previously constructed if the materials are nearby. If no materials used in the build are present, you can fabricate them at the cost of some resources.
Camera
The camera isn’t given to Link easily either, requiring some effort to get this ability. Speak to Robbie at Lookout Landing once you first arrive in Hyrule. He will explain a quest that takes place in the Depths. Find him, and he will unlock the camera on the Purah Pad. This will allow you to take pictures for the Hyrule Compendium and use photo mode for selfies.
Fuse
This Tears of the Kingdom ability can be earned by completing the In-isa Shrine on the Great Sky Island. This ability will let you combine items in some exciting ways. Fuse a Bomb Flower into an arrow for an explosive-tipped shot. Or Fuse a cart on your shield to let Link skateboard around Hyrule. The skies are the limit with this ability.
Recall
The Recall ability will let you rewind time for any object you use it on. You have to complete the Nachoyah Shrine to earn this skill. This is the fourth and final Shrine on the Great Sky Island, and it will round out the abilities Link will need to traverse Hyrule and survive in Tears of the Kingdom.
Ultrahand
The Ultrahand power can be earned by completing the Ukouh Shrine on the Great Sky Island opening area. This will let Link physically grab and move objects around and attach them to each other. You can use this to create cars, boats, planes, battering rams, and everything in between.
This sums up all of the powers and abilities in Tears of the Kingdom and where you can find them. Keep an eye on The Nerd Stash for more in-depth guides on everything this game offers.
