American drama series Perry Mason, starring Emmy winner Matthew Rhys is set to premiere on HBO in June, the teaser is out now.
Based on the characters created by author Erle Stanley Gardner in the Perry Mason series of short stories and novels -which have appeared on radio and TV shows since the 1930s- the series follows the origins of American fiction’s most legendary criminal defense lawyer, Perry Mason.
Set in 1931 Los Angeles, as the rest of the country struggles through the Great Depression, the case of the decade breaks down Mason’s door setting of his relentless pursuit of the truth in a fractured city, while walking the path to redemption himself.
The teaser for the mini-series -written by Rolin Jones and Ron Fitzgerald- has dropped, but keeps the mystery intact without giving many of the specifics away.
What we know about this “case of the decade” is that it’s a kidnapping gone very, very wrong, and what we see is Matthew Rhys- of The Americans fame- in the titular role, saying “The way I see it, there’s what’s legal… and there’s what’s right.” A pretty epic one minute and 21 seconds, really.
Debuting on Sunday, June 21 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, exclusively on HBO, the much-anticipated Perry Mason also stars John Lithgow, Tatiana Maslany, Juliet Rylance, Chris Chalk, Shea Whigham, Stephen Root, Gayle Rankin, Nate Corddry, Veronica Falcon, Jefferson Mays, Lili Taylor, Andrew Howard, Eric Lange, and Robert Patrick.
The executive producers (in alphabetical order) are; Amanda Burrell, Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, Ron Fitzgerald, Joe Horacek, Rolin Jones, and Timothy Van Patten (who also directs); co-executive producer: Aida Rodgers; producer: Matthew Rhys; created by Rolin Jones & Ron Fitzgerald; based on the characters created by Erle Stanley Gardner.
