As the countdown to the New Year approaches, a familiar face advocates for a return to more spirited celebrations on CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast. Andy Cohen, co-host of the annual television special alongside Anderson Cooper, has expressed his desire to see more drinking on the program. Recall that in 2022, the broadcast station decided to reduce alcohol consumption during the broadcast. Now, Andy Cohen has said he wants more alcohol on this year’s edition and is hoping those at the top will loosen up a bit.

CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast, hosted by Bravo chief Cohen and Anderson Cooper, was known for its lively and often boisterous atmosphere. The two hosts would share anecdotes, engage in playful banter, and occasionally partake in a few drinks to ring in the New Year. However, the dynamic changed in 2022 after former CNN boss Chris Licht took over. He revealed that alcohol consumption on the show would significantly reduce. Licht shared with his employees that he didn’t want a bunch of his respectful talents doing shots all night long. According to him, he didn’t think it built credibility.

True to his words, the 2022 broadcast featured a more reserved atmosphere than previous years. While some viewers appreciated the change, others missed the wilder and more unfiltered New Year’s Eve celebrations of the past.

A year later, Andy Cohen is pushing for a return to the spirited celebrations of years past. In a recent interview with E! News‘s Justin Sylvester at Bravocon, Andy Cohen said he wanted more alcohol this year. When asked about his plan for sneaking alcohol into the program, Cohen replied:

“Hopefully, I will not be sneaking it. I haven’t heard anything yet but come on, they need to let us drink. It’s New Year’s Eve.”

The TV presenter further noted that when CNN originally cut down on drinking, viewers weren’t happy about it. So this time, he hoped CNN would give the people what they wanted.

“Give the daddies some juice,” the star finished.

Although Cohen has expressed his desires, the decision lies in CNN’s hands. Will they give the viewers what they want? Only time will tell.
