Angel Reese just shot down the rumors that she’s involved with Travis Hunter. In case you need a refresher, the Heisman Trophy ceremony occurred this past weekend. There, Colorado’s breakout star, Travis, was presented with the highly coveted Heisman award. In addition to Coach Prime, Hunter’s girlfriend, Leanna Lenee, was there, too. However, she caused much controversy after a clip of her went viral online.
After Hunter was named the recipient of the award, fans criticized his girlfriend for remaining seated while the others stood to celebrate him. Eventually, the football player’s partner did stand, but that was after Prime appeared to tap her on the shoulder. “Why she ain’t hyped about her man winning HEISMAN?” someone wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. But that wasn’t the only comment. Hundreds of watchers flooded social media channels to voice their opinions, leading Angel to step in. However, when attempting to defend the star baller, things got messy. So, what did she have to say?
Angel Reese Stands up for Travis Hunter and Other Athletes
After seeing the hate Travis Hunter’s girlfriend was receiving, Angel Reese stepped in to offer support.
“Leave that girl alone and let them be happy. Damn,” she wrote on X. Shortly after, a fan replied, saying Angel knew Hunter’s girlfriend “was wrong for not standing.” They continued: “But that’s your boy. I understand.”
“I don’t know that boy at all,” Angel snapped back. “I’m just supporting another athlete.” The WNBA sensation continued, wondering why fans care about celebs’ personal relationships. “Y’all wanna be internet relationship experts so bad. This is why we want to keep things private ’cause y’all always gonna try to find SOMETHING.”
Angel, of course, is used to being in the headlines. If it’s not for one thing, it’s another.
Last week, she interviewed singer Coco Jones on her podcast, Unapologetically Angel. During the episode, she discussed her dream man, saying he can’t be “too cute.” She went on to explain that men who are too into themselves give her the ick. “You shouldn’t be taking a selfie before me,” she said. “Why are you taking longer than me? I should be teaching you skincare.”
But that’s not all. She also spoke about the height requirements for the men she dates. “I just don’t know if I have the confidence to date a man shorter than me,” she said, pointing to her 6’3″ stature.
Bayou Barbie Is ‘So Happy’ For Travis Hunter
Before Travis Hunter won college football’s most prestigious award, many doubted him. That’s why Angel was so emotional after the announcement this past weekend. “Why am I crying,” she wrote on X. “I’m so happy for Travis, man!!” She followed that tweet up with a powerful three-word message: “Bet on yourself.”
Angel knows all about betting on yourself. The WNBA star was selected seventh overall during the 2024 draft, earning a spot on the Chicago Sky’s roster. She set several records this year, including becoming the first rookie to snag a double-double during an all-star game. But it doesn’t stop there. Her success has translated off of the court, too. The Bayou Barbie has earned brand deals with Beats by Dre, Reeses, and Cash App.
