Anne Hathaway is opening up about her past in Hollywood. In an interview with V Magazine, the Oscar winner revealed that when she first started her acting career, asking actors auditioning for roles to make out with each other was a perfectly acceptable chemistry test. Hathaway wasn’t crazy about the practice. “I was told, ‘We have ten guys coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’ And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded gross,” she said.
Anne Hathaway Has a Different Way
The actor went on to explain that while she was against the idea, she feared “being labeled ‘difficult,’” so she obliged. Now, though, Anne Hathaway has more power on movie sets. After years of experience, proving her talent, and gaining producer status, the actress had a different method for finding the right guy for her most recent film, The Idea of You.
Instead of ordering a makeout test, Hathaway said, “We asked each of the actors coming in to choose a song that they felt their character would love, that they would put on to get my character to dance, and then we’d do a short little improv.” The crew landed on Nicholas Galitzine for the part.
Anne Hathaway has had a bit of a career renaissance in the past couple of years. The public has returned to Hathaway’s corner after years of distaste for her thanks to some strategic fashion choices and leaning into nostalgia from the first decade of her career. The Idea of You is set to release early next month, and after that, Hathaway has five other upcoming projects in the works as an actress and a couple as a producer. For Seesaw Monster, Hathaway is slated to double-dip in producing and acting duties.
