The first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp dropped earlier today, and it looks like it’ll give Ant-Man a run for its money. The original didn’t feature the Wasp in the capacity that you’re thinking of… She wasn’t helping out Scott Lang in the way the trailer for the sequel shows her to be. Plus she didn’t have that fancy suit with wings on it, a feature Lang is quite jealous of.
The trailer shows viewers how Scott Lang’s actions have affected those around him, specifically Dr. Hank Pym and Hope van Dyne (aka the Wasp). His careless nature has forced them on the run–to the point where Pym literally shrinks a building and puts it on a rolling suitcase to bring with him. Talk about taking things literally.
Ant-Man and the Wasp will take place right after those of Avengers: Infinity War, meaning that a lot of what will happen in the latter film will directly tie into the former. Considering the implications of Thanos’ arrival on Earth, one can only imagine how the planet will look after he comes to take it. Considering that Ant-Man and his friends and family are still breathing, Thanos’ first venture to Earth may not have been as successful as planned. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how both movies tie into one another, as they’ll be released within 2 months of each other.
Another interesting aspect of this trailer was the brief glimpse of Ghost. The character could be either villain or anti-hero depending on which version you’re looking at from the comics or various TV shows he appears in. We know one thing for sure though: for the first time in the character’s history, the version of Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp will not be a man. The character will be portrayed by Hannah John-Kamen, an actress known for her parts in Game of Thrones and Black Mirror. She also has a part in the upcoming films, Tomb Raider and Ready Player One.
Ghost’s suit in the trailer is a very accurate depiction of what it looked like in the comics and the animated series where the character appeared. The mystery of who’s behind the mask is what drives the character through the comics, and what will make for such an interesting development as our miniature heroes go on the run from an unknown force. Will Ghost be friend or foe? Find out on July 6, 2018, when Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters. The film also stars Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster, aka Goliath, Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, aka the Wasp.
