The cast of Superman: Legacy grows, with the latest addition being Barry star Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. It was already a big day for the actor as he received an Emmy nomination for his supporting role in Barry as Noho Hank. Now, he will jump from acclaimed HBO series to a blockbuster superhero flick with our Superman, David Corenswet, and Lois Lane, Rachel Brosnahan.
The seemingly small start to the rebooted DCU will be a much bigger effort as it introduces various heroes. Beyond Anthony Carrigan as the hero Metamorpho, aka Rex Mason, it was recently confirmed to introduce more heroes. Other cast members will include Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific. Gathedgi’s Mr. Terrific will be Michael Hoult, the second character in the source material to become the hero. Fillion’s Green Lantern will be Guy Gardner, the most comedic character who wears the powerful ring.
Anthony Carrigan Goes From Barry to Metamorpho in Superman: Legacy
Originally reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the Barry star landing this role makes for a major move and his first significant role since the end of the HBO series. He made his mark playing the hospital gangster who worked closely with Bill Hader’s assassin-turned-actor. Other projects the actor is known for include Fatherhood, Bill & Ted Face the Music, and Gotham.
Since James Gunn will direct and write Superman: Legacy, Anthony Carrigan and some of his co-stars will show the filmmakers love and knowledge for more obscure characters. While wider audiences will know Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and a few other characters tied to the Man of Steel, plenty are not as known. The hero was an archeologist who got powers after exposure to a radioactive meteorite. He can use various elements within his body as powers, including elasticity, liquid, gas, and more. The powerset will lend to creative use, making for a fun sandbox for Gunn.
Superman: Legacy will be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
