This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Mario hasn’t had a 2D adventure in quite some time, and the newest Super Mario Bros. Wonder is everything we could have expected from a new one and more. There are new abilities for Mario and his friends as well as new world stages, and locations throughout the new Flower Kingdom. As usual, there’s the question of who exactly is playable in the game as well as who is unlockable. Other games within the Mario franchise like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. pride themselves in having unlockable characters, so are there any secret playable characters in Super Mario Bros. Wonder?

There are no secret hidden or unlockable characters in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Unlike the titles that we mentioned above, the characters that are available to you from the beginning of the game are the same ones available all throughout. All of the characters that you can definitely expect to play are:

  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Princess Peach
  • Princess Daisy
  • Toad
  • Toadette
  • Nabbit
  • Yoshi (four colors)

There are currently no plans to add additional content or characters to the game. While this isn’t necessarily a playable character, there is a new fruit in the game known as the Elephant Fruit that turns whoever ingests it into an elephant with a variety of different abilities. Their Elephant versions allow them to store and spray water as well as dash across two-block-wide gaps and attack with their trunk. During the transformation, all characters lose their hair and shoes as they transform into an elephant as opposed to normal where they just wear a suit of the animal.
