All good things must come to an end and it seems that Arkham VR is the end of Arkham. Rocksteady told a powerful story while breaking new ground in gameplay. Their Arkham trilogy rests amongst the greatest superhero games of all time. Rocksteady is giving the series one final send off with another game; a VR offering.
Exclusive to PlayStation VR, Arkham VR lets you experience an adventure while looking through Batman’s eyes. Since VR is still new technology it’s a good idea not to get too excited. It’s rather unlikely that players will to engage in the same high-speed gameplay as the core games. However, if anyone can make this game work it’s probably Rocksteady.
The above trailer details the gadgets available most noteworthy is the following.
“We were keen to bring in Batman’s gadgets with the gadget belt. We’ve got the old faithful bat claw that gets you round the environment. You get to take it off the belt, you aim, you shoot, and off you go. And then on the other side we came up with a new gadget, the Scanner gadget, that is effectively a detective mode for the VR world where you can use it like a torch and then Batman can piece together the evidence using the Scanner gadget.”
Rocksteady producer Dax Ginn spoke to Eurogamer at EGX to confirm this was their last Batman Game.
““There’s a feeling in the office like, it’s definitely time to do something else – we all accept that,” he said. He didn’t share what’s next for the now beloved studio, but he did say whatever they do next “will feel very different”.
