When a woman was approached by an AT&T representative at her Tennessee home, she didn’t want what they were trying to sell. She pointed them toward her ‘no soliciting’ sign. But what the rep said next left her shocked.
Kristen (@kristenn_nicolee) was approached by an AT&T rep trying to sell services in her HOA neighborhood. The woman starts talking about why she’s there, and Kristen cuts her off with, “You’re soliciting.” She then points the woman to her sign, which states that solicitors aren’t allowed to knock.
The rep nods her head, laughing, as Kristen asks, “You see my sign? $50 if you want to talk to me. You have 50 bucks?” Still laughing, the rep shakes her head ‘no.’ She then thanks Kristen for her time. But before she leaves, she shocks Kristen with what she says next. The rep tells her, “But your internet services are gonna be cut off. You have a good day.” Kristen takes this as a threat that this woman is saying they’re going to cut her services just because she wouldn’t listen to their sales pitch.
At the end of Kristen’s video, she shows the sign that’s located outside their home. It states, “Before you knock on my door, please note: This home charges $50.00 per minute to listen to sales pitches and religious messages.” The sign then includes some legalese and ends with big, red letters: “NO SOLICITING.” On top of the treatment, Kristen says, “We are a gated community” and isn’t sure how this rep got away with selling to them.
The video immediately sparked reactions from commenters who were appalled by what the rep said. One commenter stated, “I hope you called AT&T. Not just for ignoring your No Soliciting sign but for the threat of cancelling your services.” Another added, “I’d call AT&T and demand a discount!”
One commenter, however, suggested that Kristen didn’t handle the situation with grace. They mentioned, “I’ll never understand why ppl are so rude. Just say no thank you.” But Kristen stated back, “The sign says NO THANK YOU. Respectfully, people work from home, so knocking and disrupting a work environment is RUDE.” Another commenter defended Kristen, “No soliciting means no soliciting!! No reason to bother people who clearly already are telling you they aren’t interested.” Commenters continue to share their opinions and reactions on Kristen’s video.
