Larian Studios has done a fantastic job launching Baldur’s Gate 3. The long-anticipated game is finally here after years of being in early access, and while it has its issues, the launch has been much smoother than many thought. For those struggling with the game at launch, Baldur’s Gate 3 released its first update on August 4, bringing many fixes to improve the player’s experience. If you want to know what changes this update brings, we’ve compiled the patch notes for the August 4 update of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3: August 4 Update Patch Notes (Hotfix #1)
The update for Baldur’s Gate 3 on August 4 focuses on solving many players’ crashes during the first day caused by cross-saves and other issues. Here are the issues that have been fixed with the latest update:
Crashes and Blockers:
- Fixed the possibility of getting stuck in a dialogue in the first encounter with a major boss.
- Fixed an issue where player character states would not update after dying.
- Fixed a crash that could occur during one of Astarion’s cinematic dialogues in the final parts of the game.
- Fixed a crash that could happen when loading a save game while at Last Light.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when using the brain reader in the Colony.
- Fixed an issue that could cause players to get stuck when loading a save game after dying.
- Fixed a blocker during the Character Creation process preventing you from advancing if you chose a Zariel Tiefling as Guardian.
- Fixed a potential crash triggered by the light system.
- Added an error message to prevent crashes caused by mods when starting Baldur’s Gate 3.
- Disabled Larian Account cross-saves temporarily to solve an issue with loads and saves. Steam cross-saves won’t be affected.
- Fixed a startup crash occurring with the Steam API.
- Fixed a crash that could happen when quick-loading a game if a container or corpse was looted.
- Fixed a crash that could happen if an item unlocked a spell for a game entity without stats.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when switching races or classes in Character Creation.
- Fixed potential crashes that could happen when closing screens like the options menu or ending dialogues.
- Fixed a crash when an enemy tried to use the Motivator during combat in the Steel Watch Foundry.
- Fixed a blocker that could occur if you chose to attack the Emperor during a dialogue after siding with him.
- Using PhysX should no longer crash the game.
Multiplayer:
- Players will now join cinematic dialogues as intended that require all players to be present if they were listening beforehand.
- Fixed an issue that allowed players to listen in on private dialogues using the context menu.
- Fixed an issue that caused players to get stuck out of a dialogue if someone else was already in a dialogue.
Gameplay:
- Fixed the hair physics of drow and elf male strong body types.
- Fixed an issue causing phase spiders to skip their turn in combat when standing on a web that’s been destroyed.
- Fixed an issue with dice rolling, where retrying could cause the roll to fail if you were applying bonuses and clicking fast.
- Duplicate spells won’t appear on followers’ hotbars anymore, and you can no longer customize their radial menus.
- Fixed Dark Urge randomization options in the Character Creation menu for non-white Dragonborn characters.
- Fixed an issue preventing you from interacting with Withers in a specific camp location.
UI:
- Fixed issues in cinematic dialogues when listening in on certain conversations.
- Fixed an issue causing the character models for half-orcs, Dragonborn, and half-elves not to update correctly when unequipping armor.
- Fixed some issues with prepared spells during Level Up when multiclassing.
- Hid the version number of the game during dialogues.
- Fixed split-screen cinematics showing sampling garbage.
Audio:
- Fixed audio issues with grunts, shouts, and moans across the game.
- Fixed a cut-off line when speaking to the Restless Myconid in the Underdark.
- Removed a clicking sound during the credits.
- Fixed audio levels in a dialogue with Mayrina in the Lower City.
Engine:
- Fixed a bug causing textures to appear in bright, neon colors.
- Fixed a split-screen issue causing characters to remain invisible after certain dialogues.
- Fixed an aspect ratio issue when FSR is active during split-screen play.
- Fixed surface texture details not updating when changing Texture Detail in the game video options.

There are more cinematic fixes that August 4 brought, but since most spoil parts of the game, we won’t include them in these patch notes for Baldur’s Gate 3 (you can still read them on the official site but beware of spoilers!). Yet, as you can see, Larian Studios is working hard to bring fixes to the game, which launched in a better state than many thought. Now, we hope future updates continue to polish this fantastic new RPG.
