One of the biggest RPGs of the year is Baldur’s Gate 3, made by the team at Larian Studios. These developers have worked hard to create an immersive roleplaying experience for the new generation of gaming hardware. While many love the Divinity Original Sin series, gamers worldwide are waiting for the third entry of the Baldur’s Gate series. With the release on the horizon, many wonder how certain parts of the game will work. This time, many players wonder if Baldur’s Gate 3 will have cross-play and cross-platform progression between PC and PlayStation 5. If you want to know the answer, this guide is for you.
How Do Crossplay and Cross-Platform Progression Work in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Before we delve into the topic, it is important to know that Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t feature crossplay at launch but will support cross-platform progression. This may be weird, but we can understand something about the technical part behind the choice.
The game won’t have any crossplay at launch, meaning you’ll have to get the game on the same system as your friends for co-op. That will be bad if you have it on PS5 and your party members are on PC. On the other hand, cross-platform progression will be possible for PS5 and PC.
How To Enable Cross-Platform Progression
The full details are uncertain, but it’ll most likely require players to upload their saves to the cloud. While there isn’t crossplay in Baldur’s Gate 3, having cross-platform progression is great. Sadly, you’ll have to buy the game on different platforms if you want to do this. You can get both versions if you have the money and want to support the developers. If not, there’s nothing wrong with sticking to one platform to play on.

What Is Baldur’s Gate 3 Max Level?
While Baldur’s Gate 3 is launching with cross-platform progression and no crossplay, the latter could change. We know there’s an Xbox version coming later, which means the studio has time to do some tweaks to provide players with other ways to play. Yet, it may be hard to let PC and console players get together due to mods and other things that complicate the process. In any case, all we can do is wait.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is launching on two separate dates; one for PC and one for PS5. The former is on August 3, while the console release is on September 6. So, if you haven’t pre-ordered the game, you still can. There should also be a few collector’s editions left if you want to get some extra goodies from the game.
