Baldurs Gate 3 contains a vast universe wherein each character has their own story and problems. When you go down to the Underdark in BG3, the characters you encounter here continue to have troubles needing to be solved, like in the “Defeat the Duergar Intruders” quest. In the Underdark, you will definitely meet Gekh Coal, and his team at some point. Gekh Coal and his cronies can be quite deadly in Baldurs Gate 3, so here’s some advice to get past him.
Where to Find Gekh Coal in Baldurs Gate

You will encounter Gekh Coal during the quests “Find the Missing Boots,” and “Defeat the Duergar Intruders.” He can also be found by trying to cross into Grymforge territory. Eventually, you will need to use Gekh Coal’s ship to get to Grymforge. There are two things you can do in this situation: you can either provide Gekh Coal with the boots he is looking for or you can kill Gekh Coal to get to Grymforge.
Also, by killing Gekh Coal you can complete the quest “Defeat the Duergar Intruders” and get an extra reward from Sovereign Spaw. You can find Gekh Coal in the Decrepit Village in the Underdark region. Also, as mentioned, this is the area that allows you to cross to Grymforge.
How to Beat Gekh Coal in Baldurs Gate (The Easy Way)
It can be a tough battle if you choose to fight Gekh Coal in Baldurs Gate 3, but of course, it’s not impossible. Gekh Coal has quite a useful skill set and 52 health. However, his health may vary according to your level. There are 4 of them in total, and 2 of them start the round as Invisible. So, getting scrolls like Fairy Fire or See Invisibility to reveal invisible enemies will be very useful.
In addition, we recommend adding the Thunderwave ability to your party’s Sorcerer. This is because you are fighting on a high edge, and you can push your enemies off the cliff as they approach. You can easily kill the Baldurs Gate 3 boss Gekh Coal with other party members, while your Sorcerer keeps the helpers down.

Apart from that, this fight will be much easier for you if you can have some area damage abilities in your team. Once the battle starts, Gekh Coal’s party will summon 4-5 Zombies. You can also break the ladder that leads up to the top to extend the enemy’s time to reach you by a few turns. After killing Gekh Coal in Baldurs Gate 3, you can obtain a powerful Greataxe called the Exterminator’s Axe.
