The upcoming new releases from DC Comics are bringing Superman into Batman’s White Knight Universe. Variant covers for the finale of Sean Murphy’s Batman: Beyond the White Knight feature the Man of Steel. This marks the first non-Batman superhero to arrive in this alternate DC Universe. Superman’s appearance is sure to bring some drama to the fan-favorite universe.
Man of Steel Meets Batman’s White Knight Universe
Batman’s White Knight Universe first appeared back in 2017. Sean Murphy’s Batman: White Knight #1 featured a Gotham City turned completely backward. While The Joker had regained his sanity, Batman is known for his insanity. While many iconic Batman heroes have featured in the universe, no non-Batman DC character has…until now.
That changes with this week’s Batman: Beyond the White Knight release. Last week, social media revealed a variant cover of the final issue with the Man of Steel front and center. However, the Superman on the cover looks slightly different than the one in DC’s main universe. While the costume is very similar, it is missing a belt. Plus, the Man of Steel looks slightly younger than Batman. Perhaps, Kal-El is ageless as he is often depicted in other universes.
Per CBR, after the cover’s reveal, Murphy was quick to let readers know that Superman is not Jon Kent. Something not out of the realm of possibility. Jon is currently traversing the multiverse in Tom Taylor’s Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent. So, his appearance would have worked…but alas, it seems to be his father this time around.
Where Do We Go From Here?
This week’s Batman: Beyond the White Knight is seemingly the end of Murphy’s Batman Universe. The writer has admitted that he is unsure if it will continue beyond this third run. However, he also noted that the story will end on a cliffhanger, so perhaps this isn’t the end of the White Knight Universe. For now, only time will tell!
