The backyard is a dangerous place, especially when you’re no bigger than the bugs. With spiders, mosquitoes, and other fearsome foes to fight, you’ll need to be well-equipped to survive Grounded. Fortunately, Obsidian gave players plenty of weapons to wage their war against the insects. Whether you prefer to fight up close or from afar, the game probably has something for you. Not all weapons are created equal, however, especially when it comes to taking down the game’s toughest bugs. Here are the best weapons in Grounded, ranked from good to fantastic.
5. Rusty Spear
The Rusty Spear looks like trash because it is, but that doesn’t prevent it from packing a special punch. Its damage is on the lower side, but it delivers a speedy three-hit combo to compensate. Because of all that rust, the Rusty Spear inflicts the Infection debuff, which reduces enemy Attack Speed and Attack Damage. That makes the Rusty Spear a surprisingly good survival tool since every hit you land holds your death a little further at bay. It’s one of the best options in the game for underwater combat as well, so pack it if you’re heading to the Koi Pond.
4. Widow Dagger
Unlike larger weapons, Daggers only get a two-hit combo. Despite that disadvantage, the Widow Dagger is still a fantastic weapon with a lot to offer players who know how to use it well. As its name suggests, the Widow Dagger requires crafting ingredients dropped by a Black Widow, so you’re in for a challenge if you want this Tier 3 goodie. The Venom damage makes it worth it, however, at least if you enjoy dealing damage over time. DOT isn’t always the best strategic option, which is one of the few things holding the Widow Dagger back from the top spot.
3. Sour Battle-axe
There’s a good argument for the Sour Battle-axe being one of the best weapons in Grounded despite its nerf. With average speed, solid damage, and a decent stun, the Sour Battle-axe brings a lot to the table. As its name implies, it also packs the Sour augment, which can make damaging certain otherwise-resistant critters much easier. Because it’s a two-handed weapon there are faster blades around, but it has so few weaknesses that it’s easy to recommend.
2. Mint Mace
The Mint Mace is slower than some other weapons in its category. To compensate, it deals great damage and stuns. Though it deals less damage than the Club of the Mother Demon, striking an enemy with the third hit of the three-hit combo also creates an AOE blast that stuns enemies and deals additional Fresh damage. That blast will hit all nearby enemies, and it even applies a movement debuff to keep them from going anywhere too quickly. All in all, it doesn’t get much better than the Mint Mace.
1. Toenail Scimitar
Though the Toenail Scimitar only does about half the damage of hefty weapons like the Sour Battleaxe, it’s much faster. That means it offers great DPS because you’ll be landing way more hits than you would with slower weapons. The Toenail Scimitar is a great pick if you’re looking to land frequent crits, but no matter what your strategy, it’s easy to find a place for this potent (but disgusting) blade in your arsenal. As a one-handed sword, it just offers more overall flexibility than some other Tier 3 weapons, easily making it one of the best weapons in Grounded for taking on foes like the Infected Broodmother.
