Elon Musk takes the heat from Bill Gates for his obsessive interference in matters concerning politics within and outside the United States. The Tesla mogul took a more proactive approach during the elections, backing the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump throughout his campaign. He actively promoted MAGA and Trump via his X platform by unapologetically highlighting posts that appear to favor the right wing.
The businessman has made headlines for his actions, most notably his meddling in the politics of the United States and some countries, including the United Kingdom and Germany. After facilitating Trump’s victory and reportedly spending over $250 million campaigning, Musk appeared to turn his focus elsewhere, picking apart the U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer in some of his latest tweets amid the “grooming gangs” scandal.
Bill Gates Admonishes Elon Musk Over Political Involvement
Fellow billionaire Bill Gates believes this move by Elon Musk will become a pain in the neck of major governments, and his obsessive interest in politics is uncalled for. Speaking to The Times of London in a recent interview to promote his new memoir, Source Code, Gates shared,
“It’s difficult to understand why someone who has a car factory in both China and in Germany, whose rocket business is ultra-dependent on relationships with sovereign nations and who is busy cutting $2 trillion in U.S. government expenses and running five companies, is obsessing about this grooming story in the U.K.”
In addition to calling for Starmer’s resignation and condemning the Labor Party, Elon Musk has advised the right-wing Reform U.K. party to axe leader Nigel Farage, enticing the party with the possibility of a large donation.
The tech mogul has also touched on Germany’s political affairs, making an appearance during the country’s far-right Alternative For Germany (AFD) election event in Halle ahead of the February elections. Speaking remotely to the far-right party, which has been accused of trivializing the holocaust, he urged them to “take pride in Germany” and not feel guilty for the actions of their “parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.” Bill Gates weighed in on Elon Musk’s “obsessive” involvement, telling The Times,
“You want to promote the right wing but say Nigel Farage is not right-wing enough… I mean, this is insane sh-t. You are for the AfD [in Germany].”
Gates Urges Countries to Impose Laws Banning Foreign Donations in Politics
Gates went on to accuse his fellow American billionaire of “populist stirring. According to him, while it’s okay to “overreach” sometimes, those fortunate to be “super smart” like Musk should channel that energy towards helping out. Anything short of that, as with Musk’s case, is “populist stirring.” Bill Gates also addressed Elon Musk’s multimillion-dollar input into Trump’s presidential campaign, an offer he seemingly hopes to recreate with the Reform U.K. political party. The Microsoft co-founder quipped,
“It’s really insane that he can destabilize the political situations in countries. I think in the US, foreigners aren’t allowed to give money. Other countries maybe should adopt safeguards to make sure super-rich foreigners aren’t distorting their elections.”
Bill Gates, who previously admitted to donating $50 million to a non-profit in support of Kamala Harris’ campaign had a three-hour meeting with with Trump at Mar-a-Lago following his presidential victory. Discussing the December 27 meeting, Gates described it as an “engaging conversation,” admitting Trump listened to him talk about HIV and the need to invest in finding a cure.
Bill Gates interview blasting Elon Musk comes after the Tesla CEO faced criticism for his “Nazi salute” during a Trump rally on inauguration day. The businessman-turned-political-activist attempted to defend his hand gesture, dismissing the salute hoax as part of the dirty tricks campaign against him. He proceeded to share several screenshots of prominent figures making the same hand gesture in an attempt to justify it. However, his AFD support makes that even harder to accept.
