The Birds of Prey are flying back to DC in a brand-new, ongoing series. However, this time around it is not the same old heroes. A new team, led by Dinah Lance AKA Black Canary, debuts in September’s Birds of Prey from Kelly Thompson and Leonardo Romero. While details are still scarce, we do know that this will be the “most dangerous [lineup] yet.” Sadly, that does not narrow the list of suspects when it comes to potential members.
An all-new era begins! Thompson, @Leo__Romero & #Bellaire… breaking hearts & faces over @DCComics this fall!

Forming A Team
News of this series comes straight from Kelly Thompson’s Twitter. The writer shared that she is writing a new Birds of Prey lineup featuring Black Canary. Plus, she teased that this lineup is the most dangerous one seen in the comics to date. For now, that is all the writer is giving up, although new information is just around the corner.
Over on Thompson’s Substack, the writer gave a little more information about the team behind the upcoming series. It reunites Thompson with her “old Hawkeye team” of Leonardo Romero and Jordie Bellaire. Plus, Clayton Cowles of “Team Captain Marvel” joins the roster. Speaking of rosters, it seems that we won’t have to wait too long to find out who this new Birds of Prey line consists of.
Each day this week, DC is unveiling new members of the team. Plus, some exclusive covers are revealed throughout the week and, as Thompson teased, possibly more. Then, the official solicits and covers roll out next week.
A Different Kind Of Birds Of Prey
While Kelly Thompson was mum on who the new team will consist of, beyond Black Canary, they did say it will be something completely new. This new Birds of Prey team will not be something fans have seen before. While Black Canary is back, it is likely that traditional members like Huntress, Barbara Gordon, Katana, and more will not be part of this lineup.
However, Thompson offers one clue on what to expect: “You guys know I’m not just going to bring back an exact team that’s already existed, right?”. Well, with this being Thompson’s first DC series, we are sure to see something new when Birds of Prey launches this fall.
