BLACKPINK‘s Jennie has just made a huge move on social media. Over the weekend, the K-pop singer surprised fans by launching her own profile on X (formerly Twitter). Her arrival on the platform comes ahead of her solo comeback in October, which will mark her first music release since she signed with Columbia Records earlier in September.
In case you haven’t seen it yet, BLACKPINK’s Jennie’s username on X is her full English name, @jennierubyjane. After discovering her profile, countless fans flocked to Jennie’s account to try and follow her. However, they were unable to. Since so many people had clicked on it at once, her account temporarily crashed due to the overwhelming traffic.
Thankfully, the bug has since been resolved. Fans have been celebrating her debut on X by welcoming her to the platform. “OMG JENNIE YOUR HERE FINALLY, WELCOME QUEEN,” one person wrote. “I can’t believe I can actually tag jennie here now welcome mother,” another fan said. “JENNIE WELCOME TO X,” another comment read.
Jennie joining X has been a long time coming for fans. The singer debuted as a K-pop idol under YG Entertainment in 2016. For two years, she and the rest of BLACKPINK only communicated with fans on social media via their group accounts. However, in 2018, that all changed when Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé opened up individual Instagram profiles.
Now, flash forward to six years later and Jennie has launched an individual X account. Fans hope the other BLACKPINK members follow suit amid their solo success.
Jennie’s decision to join X comes shortly before she’s set to drop new solo music in October. The release will mark the K-pop singer’s first comeback since she unveiled her hit single “You & Me” in October 2023. It’ll also be her first release since signing a solo record deal with Columbia Records just a few weeks ago.
