It’s no secret that BLACKPINK‘s Rosé is a huge Taylor Swift fan. The K-pop star was among many celebrities who attended the Eras Tour this year. After admiring Swift for so long, Rosé finally met the singer for the first time while hanging out with her producer, Jack Antonoff. Luckily, Swift was everything Rosé imagined her to be and more. During a new interview, she revealed Swift offered her advice during a rough patch in her solo career.
BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Taylor Swift’s Friendship
On Monday, Nov. 18, BLACKPINK’s Rosé talked to i-D about all things music ahead of her solo comeback. In just a few weeks, she’ll drop her debut studio album, Rosie, on Dec. 6. The highly-anticipated record will feature her hit single “Apt,” which she released with Bruno Mars in October. Since it came out, the track has experienced huge success around the world. Apart from going viral on TikTok, “Apt” went No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Although Rosé is one of the biggest K-pop idols right now, her journey toward the top wasn’t easy. She told i-D there was a moment in her solo career when she felt lost. The BLACKPINK star compared her rough patch to “drowning.” In the end, she was able to escape with some help from Taylor Swift.
BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Taylor Swift’s friendship began during a hangout with Jack Antonoff. The K-pop star had caught up with the singer and producer at Electric Lady Studios last September. Considering she’s a huge fan, Rosé couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask Swift questions about the music industry. Thankfully, Swift was eager to answer them all. “As soon as she met me, she’s like ‘Spill, let me help you out,’” Rosé recalled. “She gave me her experiences and was so ready to help me.”
As if that wasn’t nice enough, Swift had also gone the extra mile by giving Rosé her phone number. “She’s like, ‘Let me know if you have any questions,'” Rosé said. “Who does that? Like, you’re Taylor Swift!”
Rosé continued to praise Swift by calling her “the coolest” person. The K-pop star also said that Swift is a “girl’s girl” since she wants nothing more than to see other female artists succeed. “She was telling me – make sure to take care of this, this and this – like, logistics. She was trying to protect me,” Rosé explained. As someone still early in their solo career, BLACKPINK’s Rosé welcomed any advice.
Rosé debuted as a member of BLACKPINK in 2016. After focusing on group activities for five years, Rosé finally launched her solo career in 2021. That year, she released her first single album, R, in March. The project featured the tracks “On the Ground” and “Gone.” Following its release, she waited three years until she came out with “Apt” in October. Her first full-length record, Rosie, will arrive on Friday, Dec. 6, through The Black Label and Atlantic Records.
