The latest title of Warhammer Fantasy sports-themed spin-off, Blood Bowl 3, has been announced for release in early 2021. The game will be available on current and next-gen consoles: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. As well as PC via Steam. It was first announced in May 2019 and the-then publisher, Bigben Interactive, said they are expecting to release it this year. But it seems their plan had to be pushed back after Bigben merged with its sister company into Nacon.
Blood Bowl 3 is going to adopt the new edition rules of the original board game which is planned to be released later this year. At launch, the game will feature 12 races, including the new Black Orcs and Imperial Nobility, each with their own arena and team of cheerleaders, campaign and multiplayer modes, and customization options. Regular content updates will also be added after launch.
As it title stands, Blood Bowl is an American football-themed game but with both fantasy and turn-based strategy twists. And as in the tradition of Warhammer series where you shed blood for the Blood God, once you step into the gridiron, all hands are off. Shoulder charges, kicks, punches, and even bladed weapons are all allowed. Of course, this will make team and player management tricky since your players’ progress are persistent. They gain experiences and can learn new skills — but also prone to debilitating injuries and even drop dead at a snap of a finger.
Our Blood Bowl 2 review mentioned that some parts were “clunky”, where sometimes your selections are delayed or just straight up won’t activate. Easily ruining match after match since the game does not fully work as intended. So let’s hope this time around Nacon and developer Cyanide Studios can fix the issue and give the fans a more satisfying experience. Can’t wait to get your hands on Blood Bowl 3 next year?
