Contrary to what the rumors say, it looks like Borderlands 3 won’t be making an appearance at E3, next month. This news will no doubt disappoint many of the franchise’s fans. Some will likely find it suspect, considering the Walmart leak that also accurately revealed Rage 2. Considering the last game in the franchise’s main series was back in 2012, one might think now a perfect time for another sequel. Especially considering how successful the first two were. While the spin-off title, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel didn’t do as well, the Tell Tale game was also a hit with the community. So demand was still high. Yet Gearbox employee recently confirmed via Twitter that Borderlands 3 would not be making an appearance.
4/ For example, I could write it out now precisely and specifically that “Borderlands 3” will not be at E3 and many of you will choose not to believe it. Many of you will find a way to interpret the intent to suit what you want to believe regardless of what is true.

Despite this, Gearbox is still making an E3 appearance. One has to wonder what, exactly, they plan to bring. They are, of course, the publishers of the massively successful Fortnite. It’s probable that there will be news surrounding that game. There’s also the astronomically less likely possibility of an expansion on another game like We Happy Few. Or maybe there’s another announcement on the way for a totally new game. There are also a handful of other games in Gearbox’s catalog that fans would no doubt appreciate sequels to. Though the most unlikely thing would be any kind of update regarding Battleborn – the company’s 2016 pass at the arena shooter genre. Borderlands 3 was rumored to be the next project after Battleborn’s DLC was finished. But given just how badly the game “lost” to its direct competitor – Overwatch – hopes for anything more on that front are understandably low.
Either way, Borderlands 3 is basically confirmed to be in production at this point. After years of rumors, teases from the company itself, and supposed leaks, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that it will happen at some point. If the aforementioned Walmart confirmation holds up, it stands to reason that an announcement is on the way. But when? Fans may have to deal with having to wait a bit longer, knowing that it won’t be making an appearance at E3 at least.
