A normally routine meeting of the Thornton Township Board took an unexpected and chaotic turn this Tuesday evening when a heated argument between board members escalated into a full-on brawl, shocking attendees. Elected officials of the south suburban Chicago township had to halt proceedings as a fight broke out. Dolton mayor Tiffany Henyard, who has been embroiled in allegations of corruption and misconduct was even spotted getting involved in the physical altercation.
The 21-second clip opens to a chaotic scene as dozens of people can be seen tussling with each other. “What? Leave him alone!” yells one of the bystanders, as the brawl begins to escalate further. “Tiffany is in there! Tiffany is in there! Holy s***.” expresses the cameraman, as a woman in an orange wig, black suit jacket, and grey trousers wades into the fray. This person is reportedly Tiffany Henyard, the Supervisor of Thornton Township Board of Trustees.
According to CBS, the fight broke out during the public comments segment of the meeting, after activist Jedidiah Brown had some strong words for Henyard, who ended his lengthy diatribe by calling Henyard a “b****.” Specifically, Brown alluded to the findings of former Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot’s investigation into Henyard, and presented it as a scathing report that alleged a pattern of deception and mismanagement of funds by the Dolton mayor. On his way back to his seat, however, Brown was accosted by Henyard’s associates, including her boyfriend Kamal Woods, which instigated the brawl. As other men joined in, security was called and attempted to separate the aggressors.
Witnesses say that Henyard ran towards the scuffle, and while it’s unclear whether she was attempting to break up the fight, she does appear to get involved herself. Not only does she lose a shoe, but she’s also thrown to the floor. South Holland police were called into the meeting, but it’s not yet clear whether anyone was arrested or detained.
