Of the many things TSA workers have to deal with going through an X-ray scanner, very few at HNL in Hawaii could have expected a bucket of Jollibee chicken. The pride and joy of Filipino fast food was unfortunately not a fun time for airport staff, according to Reddit user WXGirl83. Posting to Reddit, she wrote in disbelief how she could have “never thought I’d watch a bucket of Jollibee bring TSA to a standstill.”
How long the delay occurred wasn’t mentioned, though a spilled bucket of fried chicken on security equipment probably takes a bit of time to clean up. “Who knew a bucket of chicken could take down a scanner…” she joked. Among the hundreds who reacted to the poultry predicament at the airport, some Redditors believe it was deserved.
“If this was HNL, that’s what TSA gets for never letting people use a bin or bowl. They are ridiculous,” wrote a commenter. “Wait, you can bring food like that with you through TSA?” questioned a baffled user. “Zero percent chance this isn’t Hawaii lol,” laughed a third.
Commenters Found the Jollibee Chicken Airport Scene Frustratingly Comical
“Imagine explaining to people that your flight delay was caused by a bucket of Jollibee,” remarked a fourth. Plenty of people chimed in, claiming that this fast food chain was one of the best, which is why it’s sad to see it go to waste on an X-ray machine’s conveyor belt. “What a waste of delicious fried chicken,” exclaimed a Redditor.
One commenter claiming to have worked as a TSA officer recalled how someone brought an uncovered cake through security. “You can bring food, just not large liquids or large amounts of liquid food,” they clarified. As one could expect, the X-ray belt got covered in icing. As a result, the whole lane allegedly had to be shut down, and the disassembly and cleaning took two days of labor.
How long it took to clean out the Jollibee from this machine in Hawaii wasn’t noted by OP. Though people probably got to enjoy the smell of scrumptious fried Filipino chicken while passing by for a bit.
