For better or worse, the World Cup has begun, but it has not been a thing of celebration just yet. As you know, many Americans, especially those in California, have been against the event, as not many celebrate it, but more importantly, it is changing many things to make way for foreigners coming to the country. And while it is great that there are people all over the world visiting our cities, it seems that residents in Los Angeles, California, aren’t too happy because the World Cup has forced some of the parking rates to go all the way to $65, which is outrageous.
Today, Reddit user Glowdirt shared a picture of a Metro announcement in Los Angeles, California, that says the following: “World Cup Service and Fan Zone Event Parking Rate $65.” It then claims that all patrons will be paying that price on June 12, 15, 18, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28, as well as July 2 and 10.
As you can imagine, several residents were shocked after seeing these prices, as they are extremely high. But beyond that, many are infuriated, as they claim the only ones who benefit from these prices are those in charge of these parking lots, in other words, the city of Los Angeles.
Many Americans have already complained that the “economic boost” of the World Cup will only affect authorities or business owners. However, the working class will have to face these egregious prices for at least a month, and that will surely affect those who were using certain establishments or services, such as this parking lot.
California Redditors Furious About Parking Rates
After seeing this, several Redditors from California, especially those living in Los Angeles, commented on the post claiming that these prices were anti-consumer and just a way for the city to make a quick buck, thanks to the World Cup.
“This is so predatory.”
“And they want us to use public transport.“
Others, however, have criticized the event as a whole, as it has generated a lot of backlash.
“I hate how instead of bringing us together for the love of soccer, this World Cup has brought us together by our hatred of how they are exploiting us to charge an arm and a leg for anything.“
In the end, people believe that certain businesses and services are taking advantage of those coming to the country, but are also affecting residents, and this is something that has infuriated many.
