While attending a Coachella event, a California man posted a video on social media of himself having a hard time dealing with Coachella employees. They had confiscated his government-issued ID, refusing to return it because he allegedly used a fake Coachella pass. Posted by TikTok user TheMattyRossi (Matty), Matty addressed the audience immediately, stating he ordered a Coachella pass from a “StubHub verified channel.” Matty tries to get answers from a security guard, who seems just as frustrated as him. “It’s not my team,” the security guard says.
The security guard then attempts to retrieve it, but he comes up short. “It’s my property,” Matty says, and tells the staff that it doesn’t matter how he obtained the allegedly fake pass. What’s more important is that his ID was “wrongfully taken.”
When Matty approaches the ticket window, the Coachella employee removes their hat to hide their face. They can be heard giggling. The possibility of the police coming up comes up, and Matty agrees to it. The security guard asks if he’ll leave if he gets his ID, to which Matty says he’ll be “taking it up with StubHub” after this. The employee behind the window finally relents, but not before tossing the ID out the window and cursing at Matty.
In a follow-up video, Matty explains where the problem started: the pass had been reported stolen/missing by the original seller. In other words, Matty was likely scammed. And this was despite the ticket band being registered to his ID. “They [Coachella] were not helpful with anything and basically just told me to kick rocks and go home,” Matty says.
This was frustrating to him because he had spent a lot of money on his trip. Additionally, he wanted to keep the pass to report it to StubHub and get some money back, but he needed his ID to do so. “Me not giving them the band, they were holding onto my ID,” Matty says. “It’s nonsense, Coachella. Do better.”
The Internet Reacts to Matty’s Coachella Misadventure
Many in the comments on Matty’s TikTok video supported him, especially regarding recording the back-and-forth. Several viewers suggested seeking an attorney, while a few were unconvinced that Matty was being truthful about his Coachella pass. “They legally cannot confiscate your ID. That’s a lawsuit,” one TikTok viewer wrote.
Another TikTok user was happy for Matty, saying, “Enjoy your lifetime Coachella tickets after this one, diva!” Others argued that nothing would come of this. Matty posted a short video in response to the comment, showing himself enjoying Coachella to the tune of “Started From the Bottom” by Drake.
Some viewers took to ridiculing the staff, especially the one working the window. “All that to not even be making minimum wage.” Though one person did defend the security guard, saying he was “more professional” than the employee behind the window.
Matty also commented on his video, adding more context and stating his problem is more so with the “third-party seller, not Coachella.” However, he also argues it didn’t excuse the way their staff reacted. He wishes the interaction had been “handled more professionally.”
