California Woman Confronts Dad for Taking Daughter Into Costco Women’s Restroom, Then the Girl Speaks Up: ‘I Can’t Go in Myself Yet!’

It really isn’t that serious

A California dad’s trip to Costco turned confrontational after another customer objected to him entering the women’s restroom to help his young daughter. The disagreement eventually drew in a store manager, but it was the little girl’s explanation for why her dad was there that quickly became the standout moment.

Posted by the father in question on his personal TikTok account, Liebchenr, Oscar tells the audience, “Don’t let Karens harass you for taking your daughter into the women’s bathroom.” When he exits the bathroom at Costco, a woman confronts him for being a man in the women’s restroom.

@liebchenr

Don’t let Karen’s harras you for taking your daughter into the women’s bathroom . Thank you Costco managers at Almaden for handling the situation #girldadproblems #girldad #costco #karen #fyp

The woman walks over to Oscar and tells him, “I have never seen such a thing.” He tells her, “You saw it right there. And now you’re informed and you’re educated.” Oscar told the woman he was legally permitted to accompany his daughter into the restroom, adding, “I’m not in there looking at you.”

Eventually, a Costco manager approaches them to find out what’s going on. Oscar tells them the customer is “harassing” him for using the women’s bathroom. As the customer is asking the manager if that’s permitted, Oscar’s young daughter speaks up. As the woman asked the Costco manager whether Oscar was permitted inside, his daughter suddenly jumped into the argument herself. “I can’t go in myself yet!” she shouted. The manager responded that it wasn’t an issue unless Oscar was “peeking through the stalls.” Nothing shown in the circulating video indicates that was what Oscar was doing.

Oscar also said he announced himself before entering the women’s restroom with his daughter. The woman berates him with a persistent, “Next time, please do it louder.” You can hear the irritation in Oscar’s voice as he tells the manager he’s tired of these things happening. He tells her, “I’m not going to take her into the men’s bathroom.” Oscar thanks the manager for standing up for him and his daughter.

Viewers Rally Behind California Dad After Costco Confrontation

For the most part, people sided with Oscar in the comments, arguing he did everything right and the customer was just being way too serious about the situation. “Costco manager understood the assignment. Protect your babies.”

Bringing up Oscar’s defense of avoiding the men’s bathroom, a commenter wrote, “Why would anyone WANT a dad to take a LITTLE GIRL into a men’s restroom?!”

Many of the women in the comments defended Oscar as well, one of whom said they’d “hold the door” for them and wish them well. She added, “And go on about MY business.” Oscar responded, saying he has his daughter call too, just to make sure.

Another commenter brought up a good point, saying, “Parents have been doing this for decades but all of a sudden it’s a problem?”

While the comments shown under Oscar’s video overwhelmingly supported him, the confrontation also raised the question of how parents should handle restroom access when accompanying young children of another gender, particularly when a family restroom isn’t available.

The woman clearly wasn’t comfortable finding a man inside the women’s restroom, while Oscar made it equally clear he wasn’t willing to send his young daughter inside alone. But his daughter may have offered the simplest explanation of the entire Costco confrontation herself: “I can’t go in myself yet!”
