After an earnings call for Activision Blizzard’s Q4 of 2018 (in which it was announced that around 800 employees of the company would be laid off after months of rumors and no communication from higher-ups), we now have what seems to be a plan for the company’s largest and most popular franchise – Call of Duty.

Here’s a rundown of the main takeaways:

  • The biggest and best in-game event for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is launching on Feb. 19, with significant updates across all modes.
  • This Fall, fans can look forward to another major launch for the franchise featuring an entirely new campaign, a huge and expansive multiplayer world, and some fun co-op gameplay.
  • The Activision Blizzard team will also build on their experience with the Overwatch League to launch a professional, city-based Call of Duty league that drives franchise engagement.

Call of Duty

Perhaps the biggest news here is that the next Call of Duty installment (which is rumored to be Modern Warfare 4) will have a single-player campaign – something the franchise didn’t include in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Some will be ecstatic that the next Call of Duty title will go back to its roots and provide players with a cinematic and enthralling story mode with classic set pieces – it may even bring back fans who were turned off by Black Ops 4‘s lack of single-player mode.

The CoD franchise has been a huge earner for Activision Blizzard, so it’s no wonder why they are planning ahead. Hopefully, they further reinvigorate the series and build upon its history.

Are you excited about the new Call of Duty plans? Did you abandon the series long ago or are you planning on returning? Let us know what you think in the comments, and stay tuned to The Nerd Stash for all the other nerdy news you need to know!
