Cameron Diaz is returning to the world of acting for the first time in nearly a decade, and she’s certainly making a splash. Diaz, known for her roles in The Mask and Annie, is reportedly in final negotiations to star in Outcome, a dark comedy featuring Keanu Reeves as a Hollywood star forced to confront his past. Details about Cameron Diaz’s specific role are being kept under wraps for now, but it has been confirmed that Jonah Hill (21 Jump Street, Superbad) will direct and star in the film alongside Reeves and Diaz.
Cameron Diaz Boards “Outcome” with Keanu Reeves, Jonah Hill
Directed by Jonah Hill and written by Hill and Ezra Woods, Outcome will star John Wick’s Keanu Reeves as Reef, a “damaged” Hollywood star who is forced to confront his past and make amends with his demons after someone blackmails him using a mysterious and compromising video clip. An Apple Original film, Outcome marks the second collaboration from Jonah Hill and Apple Studios, with the first being a Grateful Dead biopic directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Both films will be produced by Jonah Hill, Matt Dines, and Ali Goodwin under their Strong Baby production banner.
Outcome marks Cameron Diaz’s first acting role since 2014’s Annie, where she played Colleen Hannigan, a bitter former star put in charge of the orphanage. Following the release of that film, Diaz went on record saying that she was tired of traveling for filming and would be retiring. Since then, she’s published two books, with the latest being The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength, and the Privilege of Time, a health book published in 2016. In 2020, Diaz and business partner Katherine Power released an organic wine brand, Avaline, and in 2022 she appeared as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7.
Cameron Diaz announced that she would be returning to acting in 2022, as she revealed she would be reuniting with Jamie Foxx in Back in Action, a Netflix action-comedy that’s currently in production. Some of her past roles include her film debut in The Mask (1994), Charlie’s Angels (2000), the Shrek movies, and Bad Teacher (2011).
