Cosmoem, the evolution of the Psychic-type Cosmog in Pokémon GO, is canonically supposed to be able to evolve into the Psychic and Steel-type Legendaries: Solgaleo and Lunala. These two powerful pocket monsters were the featured pair for Pokémon Sun and Moon, making them undoubtedly worthwhile to unlock. So naturally, Trainers are eager to know if Cosmoem is able to evolve into these Legendaries in Pokémon GO. If they were available, it would be likely that Solgaleo could be evolved during the daytime, while Lunala could only be acquired by evolution after nightfall. Continue reading to learn if Cosmoem is able to evolve into its final Legendary forms.
Evolving Cosmoem in Pokémon GO
As of the second week of October 2022, Trainers cannot evolve Cosmoem into Solgaleo or Lunala in Pokémon GO. Currently, the only evolution that is available for this pocket monster’s family is the transformation from Cosmog to Cosmoem, which occurs during the fourth part of the Cosmic Companion Special Research questline in Pokémon GO.

While it might be disappointing to some that Cosmoem cannot evolve, this fact does not rule out the possibility that Niantic will release its evolution someday in the future as the Cosmic Companion Special Research progresses. After all, it would make sense that Cosmoem would be able to transform based on the time of day after receiving a set number of Candies. On the other hand, there are no known Legendaries in Pokémon GO that can be evolved, so it would be a first for the Cosmog family to reach its final evolutions.
However, Reddit users from the TheSilphRoad forum have unveiled unofficial information regarding Solgaleo and Lunala’s inability to be evolved from Cosmoem in Pokémon GO. Many users speculate that these two Legendaries will instead be powerful Raid Bosses that can only be obtained once they have been defeated in a Gym. Of course, many are not happy with this decision since it locks away two pocket monsters as Raid exclusives instead of following the actual lore of their evolutions. Nevertheless, this speculation does not yet reflect the current state of Pokémon GO, as what happens to these two Legendaries will depend on what Niantic has planned for the unannounced future of the Cosmic Companion storyline.
Pokémon GO is available on iOS and Android.
