Can you pet the dog in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom? Man’s best furry friend has returned in Link’s latest adventure. You can find a dog at nearly every stable in the game. The thing about video games is we love that they are interactive. For every shrine we come across, we expect a puzzle or battle that we get deep into. Making meals like elixirs to help Link survive is another deeper system that we enjoy. Surely, Nintendo would allow us to show the good boys and girls that we appreciate them. With this in mind, can you pet dogs in Tears of the Kingdom?

How to Befriend Dogs in Tears of the Kingdom

Unfortunately, you can not pet dogs in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. When you get close, there is no prompt to show them some love. Link just kind of stands there and stares at them. You can hit them with your melee weapon, which will cause them to run away and bark at you, but that is as close as it gets. There is no way to kill them either, thankfully.

While Link obviously does not understand how to treat a dog right with gentle pets, he can still befriend them. Dogs will appear happier around Link if he takes a picture with them or feeds them four pieces of food. Dogs in Tears of the Kingdom will eat raw meat and fruit, but not fish. After eating the last bit of food, they begin walking somewhere. Follow them, and they will start to dig up a treasure. Use Ultrahand to pull it out of the ground when they back off and claim your reward.

Typically, the treasure you get from the chests is not anything too amazing—usually Rupees, a standard weapon, or a material like a Brightbloom Seed. Just because the reward is not something outstanding doesn’t mean you shouldn’t love up on the dogs. We will riot if Zelda puts dogs in their games but does not let us pet them.

Dogs do not appear at every stable in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, but they can be found at most of them. Foothill Stable even has multiple dogs that will all lead you to different treasures if you befriend them. Where are these dogs’ owners? We’ve no idea, but we are glad to see them.
