Kameo characters in Mortal Kombat 1 are a nod to the original MK1 from the Midway timeline. This is a very new addition that Ed Boon and the NetherRealm studios introduced during Summer Game Fest 2023. But these characters seem to differ from the main roster, and they will probably have in the story of Mortal Kombat 1. Now with that in mind, can you play as the Kameo characters in Mortal Kombat 1? Here’s what you need to know.

Can You Pick The Kameo Characters in Mortal Kombat 1?

No. The Kameo and main fighters are separated into different sections in MK1. In fact, these fighters are only there to be used as sidekicks, and you can not even tag them in. They will only perform some moves and complete combos. Or you can use them in your Fatal Blow to deal damage. However, you can not select them as your main character.

Now while the main roaster of the game is totally different from the Kameos, some fighters still appear in both pools. Characters like Scorpion and Sub-Zero can be picked as the main or as a sidekick. But this doesn’t mean that the Kameo Sub-Zero is the same as the main one.

If you’ve noticed in the gameplay videos, Kameo fighters show up with some old customs of the Midway studio’s Mortal Kombat 1 from the 90s. Ed Boon, the creative director of the Mortal Kombat series, refers to this as a nod to the old games. This is probably all about it for the Kameos. Kameo characters won’t have an important impact on the game’s story, and you can not pick them as your main character in Mortal Kombat 1.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to release on September 19, 2023. Developed by the NetherRealm Studios, MK1 can play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Amir is an absolute Call of Duty nerd, preferring shooter games more than everything. However, he does like to do uppercuts in Mortal Kombat and feel the NOS going through the engines in Need For Speed games.
