The Legend of Zelda franchise now has one more title in the mainline story, Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. With a lot of new and old mechanics and abilities in this marvelously designed open-world game, players are asking whether they will be able to repair weapons in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. In previous installments, players faced the frustrating fact that no weapon could have been repaired. Instead, it would degrade and fall apart, eventually. With the new title in our hands, we answer your question, can you repair weapons in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Link can’t repair weapons in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, just like in the predecessor, Breath of the Wild. However, all is not bleak. Link has an entirely new ability called Fuse. This allows Link to combine all sorts of things with a melee weapon or shield.

This is pretty straightforward. Select the Fuse ability and highlight the object you want to combine with the shield or weapon. This will extend the durability of the weapon but certainly won’t become indestructible.

In the early game, all weapons you encounter will be relatively weak and break quickly. The best advice here is to pick up everything you find and always have a weapon on you.

Although weapon durability has frustrated Legend of Zelda fans, this new Fuse ability makes the entire gameplay more creative. While you can’t simply repair weapons in Tears of the Kingdom like in other games, you will be able to create all sorts of new weapons.

For starters, you can Fuse a tree branch with a bolder, creating a hammer-lookalike that can be used in combat. Another impressive thing that might compensate for the lack of weapon repairs in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is that Fuse can enhance not only the durability of the weapons that Link has at its disposal but also its power and range. For instance, if you Fuse a Long Stick and a Farmer’s Pitchfork, you will get a Longer Polearm.

Now, if you choose one of the arrows and Fuse it with a fish eyeball, you will get a homing arrow, excellent for moving targets.

To Fuse weapons, all you need to do is activate the Fuse ability and then press Y or ZL to Fuse the items you want together. While these are just simple examples of what the Fuse ability can do, in the later-game, you will be able to create more powerful and more durable weapons, probably forgetting that you can’t repair weapons in Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom is available on Nintendo Switch.
