While neither Spider-Man will spend much time swimming around, it’s helpful to know if water is something to avoid. Even if you are a perfect web-slinger, you might take hits while in the air that force you into the water. Can you swim in Spider-Man 2 and do you need to do anything special to swim?
How Swimming Works In Spider-Man 2
Swimming in Spider-Man 2 doesn’t have any special condition other than falling into water. Any suit allows you to swim without difficulty. You might fall into the water because you missed your timing or because something knocked you into the water. The quickest way out would be to web up to the nearest building or high point. That puts you back into the air and gets you out of the water easily. If you are moving fast when you hit the water, you can actually glide on it for a short time.
If there isn’t a quick escape or there’s another reason you must be in the water, you can move around like you normally do. Spider-Man will swim around normally without any issue. The only problem is that Spider-Man’s combat won’t be as effective in the water. Get yourself back into the air or on solid ground if you want to fight normally.
Should your objective be close by, you can speed up by holding the Dodge button. This makes you swim faster, but not by much. You move much faster by web-slinging or even running on the ground. But it is an option if you must remain in the water and circle the perimeter.
Even though you can swim in Spider-Man 2, the game wasn’t built around aquatic combat, and there are no skills for it. You are much better in combat when you can swing around or stand on solid ground. Your priority should be to exit the water as fast as possible or at least wait until it’s safe. Web yourself out of the water and continue following your objectives.
Falling into the water isn’t a death sentence, and it’s likely to happen at some point while you learn how to play. It’s good to know that water won’t hinder you much, and it’s possible to get right back into the action. Just stay calm when you are in the water and swim around for a better position.
