Resident Evil has always been one of Capcom‘s most successful series. It’s proven itself as the long-standing horror genre-defining game. Its unique presentation on the PlayStation, with tank-like controls, catapulted the series’ popularity for its unique presentation. With the series brand-new Netflix movie and remix of classic games, the brand has never been bigger. The most recent entry in the series, resident evil village, was one of the breakout titles of the previous year. Now with more emphasis put on the impending Resident Evil 4 Remake, fans are getting excited. How Many Copies Of Resident Evil 2 Sold Over The Original?
While crossing this threshold in more than 3 years is worth celebrating, it’s also a series marker. While other less popular Resident Evil games can struggle to sell well, the main series titles have always retained a certain prestige around their sales. The numbered entries have sold over 10 million units each thanks to rereleases on new console generations. While the original Resident Evil 2 sold closer to 4.9 million, the DualShock version easily allowed it to surpass 5 million. It was a massive success for the PlayStation and its sales numbers certainly impressed Sony and Capcom. Now, more than 20 years later, the RE2 remake has done the same and rebounded the series to even greater heights. With the newest entries on their way to reaching those numbers, even future Resident Evil titles will have to live up to the legacy RE2 has built.
