A viral video of an influencer demanding a fix for his car radio’s battery is apparently igniting an anti-immigration debate after it featured a man with an African accent having a hard time communicating with AutoZone employees in Ohio. Near the end of the incident, the alleged “misunderstanding” grew so bad that the supposedly African man ended up insulting Americans.
The incident occurred in Springfield, Ohio, earlier this week. Facebook user and influencer Anthony Harris, aka AlfredoPastaDon, posted the video of the interaction on July 15. In the clip, he can be seen bringing a car alternator to the AutoZone, telling them he wants to “fix the music in the car” and that “this battery no good.” Harris’ demand to the AutoZone immediately frustrated the staff he was talking to since the alternator apparently doesn’t have anything to do with the car’s radio.
In addition to confusing the male staff, Harris also kept calling him the wrong gender title, referring to him as “ma’am, your ears no work good, you no listen.” At that point, the other staff members had to intervene because the first staffer who was assisting Harris began making physical threats and asking him to leave since the influencer started insulting him, saying, “you no smart.”
However, after the other staff members came over to address the situation, Harris made an exasperated comment in front of them, stating, “these Americans are not smart.” The remark triggered all four staff members in front of him, and they ended up asking him to leave almost in a chorus.
The influencer’s antics have sparked outrage
For the record, Anthony Harris is a prank influencer, and while his confused “African immigrant” behavior is just a persona he started cooking up last year, the establishments he features are often unaware of the pranks, leading to what appear to be genuine reactions for the sake of clout. Hence, Harris’ clips have sparked outrage among certain social media groups.
One conservative X account in particular has accused Harris of leading an attempt to “pressure AutoZone into firing an entire store of employees” after his latest video. As a result, Harris’ AutoZone prank has led to a rather heated discourse, especially among anti-immigrant social media users. “Don’t [expletive] with my AUTOZONE FAMILY! I’m coming for you,” threatens one angry commenter.
Another seems to have fallen for Harris’ prank and believes that he’s a real African immigrant, leaving comments like “This is the destruction of the country. Customers don’t listen. And then complain.” It’s not clear whether AutoZone does plan to fire the employees involved in Harris’ latest video, but people are already rallying in the employees’ defense, claiming, “@autozone protect these employees or you’ll lose a customer for life.”
