The charities selected as beneficiaries of Johnny Depp’s donations have finally shared their thoughts regarding the actor’s generosity. As expected, these non-profit organizations expressed gratitude to the comeback Hollywood star for his support. They got $200,000 each from the $1 million settlement Depp received from his ex-wife Amber Heard’s insurance company. In addition to the gratitude, the organizations said they are ready to put Johnny Depp’s charity donations to good use and change many lives.
Charities Showed Gratitude for Johnny Depp’s Donations
Johnny Depp’s recent donations are set to do more than just rebuild the actor’s tarnished reputation. They will go a long way in putting smiles on the faces of sick and underprivileged people. For this, the recipients of the donations couldn’t be more thankful. During a recent chat with TMZ, the charities showed appreciation to Depp for his thoughtfulness. A rep for Make-A-Film Foundation described the star as one of the most generous people the organization had ever worked with.
More importantly, they shared that Depp’s charity donations would go into the production costs for short films and documentaries, which terminally ill kids would make with actors. Similarly, the Executive Director of Red Feather, Joe Seidenberg, revealed the charity’s plan for the donation. According to him, they would use the money to tackle “housing disparities for Native Americans, especially the Navajo and Hopi tribes.”
Also, Amazonia wasn’t left off the list. A rep shared that they would send the money to the Brazilian National Federation of Associations, Centers, and Clubs. The organization would use the funds for various projects that would help preserve the Amazon ecosystem. Depp also received appreciation from Marlon Brando’s charity, Tetiaroa Society. The charity’s executive director Frank Murphy described the actor’s generosity as overwhelming.
Murphy further shared that the charity was honored to be a part of the organizations Depp chose. The director also said they would channel Johnny Depp’s donation into helping to protect Tetiaroa. In addition, the organization would support indigenous voices across the Pacific and “advance ocean-based solutions to climate change.”
Details of the Settlement
The news of Johnny Depp’s charity donations comes six months after the actor, and Heard reached a settlement in December 2022. In a statement at the time, Heard revealed that the “very difficult decision” to settle wasn’t an act of concession. According to the actress, it was an opportunity to remove herself from a battle she had attempted to leave over six years before on her terms. In the end, Heard paid her ex-husband $1 million in settlement for defamation. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor pledged to donate the settlement to charity; hence, the recent Johnny Depp donations.
