Chrissy Teigen outraged fans with a tone-deaf post from the closet of her Los Angeles home amid the raging LA Wildfires. Since the shocking disaster hit the star-packed city this week, several celebrities have evacuated their luxury abodes in their numbers as flames engulf the city. Joining the growing list of celebs were John Legend and his wife Chrissy, who fled their home and sought refuge in a hotel alongside their four kids, and family pets. But not before capturing one last moment of grief in a wardrobe selfie.
Taking to her Instagram stories on Wednesday, the 39-year-old shared updates on her family’s evacuation process, from the emotional preparatory stages to their stop at a hotel. Expressing her conflicting emotions as they uprooted their lives from the place her family had called home for years due to the LA wildfires Chrissy Teigen wrote,
“I haven’t had the words, it is a hellscape. We are ok as of right now, and I felt weird saying that with so many people we know and don’t know who are not ok.”
Chrissy Teigen’s Pre-Evacuation Selfie From Closet Sparks Outrage
The star followed up with a mirror selfie from her closet, showing her clad in a black button-down onesie. A packed suitcase lay beside Chrissy Teigen in the last-minute closet shot, indicating she was all set to bid the home farewell knowing, it may be her last if the LA wildfires engulfed it. The mom of four admitted her fears in the post, which showed her sobbing in her wardrobe, captioning,
“This is surreal. I’m very scared now. Packing.”
However, fans deemed the post tone deaf, calling out the icon for flaunting her massive closet space and abundance of extravagant outfit collection even in the face of the real danger threatening thousands of Americans. One X user raged,
“The fact that she took a selfie near her closet of high-priced rags says it all. No one cares about these two out-of-touch narcissists.”
Another slammed,
“Taking photos while evacuating? Show me a vapid and shallow?”
A third criticized,
“Seriously? A photo in front of her large wardrobe. How tone deaf can a person get?”
Another fan expressed disbelief that Chrissy was “really crying in front of her clothes.” One fan noted how difficult it felt to feel any sympathy for Chrissy Teigen with the “wall-length closet of designer clothes behind her,” describing it as “off-putting.” Others sarcastically mocked the star’s supposedly “spur-of-the-moment” decision to capture how scared she was with a random selfie that happened to showcase her lavish closet.
Chrissy Finds Comfort in Family Amid LA Wildfires
Remarkably, the backlash did not deter Chrissy Teigen from sharing more updates on her family’s devastating odyssey amid the wildfires. The family of six wound up in a hotel, along with their four dogs and pet bearded dragon Sebastian. She shared another clip on Insta stories capturing herself now in the hotel, with her dogs surrounding her on a bed, while Sebastian nestled on her chest. She captioned,
“4 kids, 4 dogs, and a bearded dragon walk into a hotel.”
Like John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s family, several A-listers and their families have been displaced by the ongoing wildfires engulfing L.A. for days. In the last few days, stars like Travis Barker, Grimes, Mark Hamill, Paris Hilton, and Ben Affleck among others have evacuated their homes due to the Los Angeles infernos.
While most of these luxury mansions are among the 10,000 homes charred by the natural disaster so far, some houses remain standing, with residents only fleeing for safety concerns. At least 10 deaths have been recorded so far, with about 180000 residents displaced amid the chaos which continues to spread despite intervention from the fire department and other trained hands.
