For years the video game genre has attempted to cross pollinate with the medium of film. In recent memory, the Assassin’s Creed and Warcraft tie-in films have aired in cinemas to less than moderate success. With Warcraft receiving a 32 on Metacritic and Assassin’s Creed receiving a 36. However, in the past few days news has emerged of several video game I.P. attempting to jump over onto television/ streaming services. The newest announcement being that of a Costume Quest animated series. According to Frederator Studio’s, Amazon will be airing the series at some point in 2018. Amazon stating that the show will center around 4 children, “facing off against the dark forces lurking in the shadows of their sleepy town of Auburn Pines.”
The Frederator website has acknowledged the roles of the following individuals within the series. Pat Mchale (Adventure Time) is set to direct the first episode, with Zac Gorman (Uncle Grandpa) designing and writing the majority of the characters. Digital eMation Inc. (Robotboy, Dante’s Inferno) is handling the animation. The series cast includes Rob Paulsen (Animaniacs), Frank Welker (Aladdin), Sinclair Dumont (Bonnie & Clyde), Aidan Sussman (Argo), Issac Ryan Brown (Black-ish), Allie Urrutia (The Adventures of Lucy), Kevin Michael Richardson (The Animatrix), and Sam Marin (Adventure Time).
There is no word yet as to how closely the show will tie in with the video game series of the same name. The original Costume Quest game was released by Double Fine Productions in 2010, with its sequel releasing in 2014. The games feature a group of children dealing with maniacal Dentists, fiendish monsters, and time traveling evil doers, all while collecting mass amounts of candy. This simplistic turn-based RPG had players using the various abilities given to them by collectible Halloween costumes, found throughout the world. The animated series will also feature the main characters harnessing the unique abilities of their costumes.
Alongside producing the Costume Quest series, Frederator Studios will also be working on the recently announced Castlevania Netflix series. For all things Costume Quest, Streaming and games stay tuned to TheNerdStash.com.
