The latest expansion for the medieval courtier simulator, Crusader Kings II: Horse Lords, comes out July 14th, becoming the eight expansion in this ever-growing series.
In this latest expansion, you take the reigns as the leader of any several steppe hordes as you pillage and plunder your way across Eastern Europe and beyond. Your nomadic life will play very differently from those previous kings and queens of Western Europe as you try and become “The Ruler of the Sky” or Great Khan.
Along with these new playable factions there is also the difference in gameplay styles that accompany these nomadic tribes. In typical Mongol fashion, you don’t need to have massive holdings and sprawling keeps to boost your prestige; instead, large swaths of open land in the east will provide you with ample amounts of people, your main currency as a horse lord.
There is also a slew of new features for clan management, mercenaries, adventuring, and very importantly, the introduction of a dynamic silk road.
Your middle school history teacher would be so proud.
Why not let Henrik Fåhraeus, lead designer for Crusader Kings II, explain some of the exciting changes ahead.
“So, you get a bigger map and some dudes on horses… I don’t want to pay for that!” You yell at your monitor as you feverishly read this news update. But wait, in line with Paradox Interactive’s particular strain of delightful studio management, there is also a whole host of major updates and patches that come along with the release of this game for free. Here is a list of the patches and free updates associated with this expansion.
