Through a partnership between MGM Television and Netflix, a streaming series based on the Addams Family character, Wednesday Addams, is coming to Netflix. The series, simply titled Wednesday, is set to be directed by the legend Tim Burton. Unsurprisingly, Burton will be joined by his longtime collaborator Danny Elfman, who will provide the score as well as the title theme for Wednesday.
Netflix’s Wednesday will have eight episodes, all directed by Tim Burton, that follow a live-action Wednesday Addams as a student at Nevermore Academy. Viewers will watch as Wednesday begins to master and understand her psychic abilities, put an end to a killing spree in the local town, and solve a supernatural mystery tied to her parents’ past — all while navigating a variety of new, complex relationships.
The cast for Netflix’s Wednesday includes a number of famous faces. Taking on the titular role of Wednesday Addams is Jenna Ortega, who starred in TV shows like You and Jane the Virgin and is also part of the ensemble cast for the upcoming fifth Scream movie. Joining Ortega for the series are Catherine Zeta-Jones (as Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (as Gomez Addams), Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Georgie Farmer, Naomi Ogawa and Moosa Mostafa.
Danny Elfman will also play a major role on Wednesday as the composer. Elfman has worked with Tim Burton on nearly every movie he has directed — except for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. However, Elfman has written the music for more than a hundred films throughout his career. His credits include Burton’s Batman movies, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, each of the Men in Black movies, and so many more.
