Horror fans, you are going to want to get ready for this! Indie horror game, DARQ, developed by the team at Unfold Games, is coming to Steam on August 15, 2019. The release date was announced alongside this brand new trailer below.
DARQ is a psychological horror game based around the idea of lucid dreaming gone wrong. You play as a young boy named Lloyd who has come to the realization that he’s dreaming. After many unsuccessful attempts to wake himself, Lloyd must make it through the darkest corners of his subconscious as his dreams delve into nightmares.
As seen in the trailer above, a lot of the gameplay revolves around stealth elements and solving gravity-defying puzzles. This sort of gameplay paired with the quirky environment and unsettling monster designs are sure to come together in fascinating ways. Game Director, Wlad Marhulets wrote,
“The game breaks its own rules all the time which puts the player in the state of constant uncertainty and anticipation.”
The Tim Burton-esque art style and the “Shining-like gameplay” promised on the website are sure to delight and terrify fans of indie horror games. Adam Schmidt, known for his work on Inception and Pirates of the Carribean, and Bjorn Jacobsen, known for his work on Cyberpunk 2077 and Hitman, have worked towards a spine-tingling soundtrack and sound design respectively.
All in all, DARQ has all the boxes checked for something unique in the indie horror genre, and we are eager to see it all come together. DARQ will be available on Steam on August 15th, but you can stay up-to-date with any last-minute announcements by checking out Unfold Games’ Twitter account.
