Sony has officially moved David Leitch’s Bullet Train three months back from April to July 2022. Based on the novel by Maria Beetle (or Bullet Train in English) by Kotaro Isaka, Bullet Train tells the exciting story of five assassins on a Japanese bullet train who discover that their assignments are all interconnected.
For Bullet Train, Leitch is bringing together an all-star cast that includes Brad Pitt, Andrew Koji, Joey King, Zazie Beetz, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Logan Lerman, Michael Shannon, and Sandra Bullock. Production for Bullet Train began during the pandemic in October 2020, with filming wrapping up in March of this year.
While the cast itself does draw a lot of attention, Leitch himself is becoming a well-known name in Hollywood, especially when associated with action movies. As a former stuntman himself, Leitch knows how to pull off incredible sequences and many of his movies have amazing choreography and unique action sequences that rely little on shaky-cam. His films so far include John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, and Deadpool 2. No matter what you think of the stories in these movies, the action scenes are always incredibly impressive.
However, fans will now have to wait a little bit longer for his next film as, according to Deadline, Sony has delayed it by 3 months, which considering how badly the film industry was impacted by the pandemic, isn’t too long of a wait. Bullet Train is now avoiding possible competition with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 which could have a solid audience turnout, especially after the first trailer built-up excitement. Still, Bullet Train could now be competing with Thor: Love and Thunder which opens a week earlier.
Bullet Train isn’t the only movie to be hit by the delay bug as Michael Bay’s Ambulance has been pushed to April 2022. Ambulance stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in a bank robbery gone horribly wrong. It now lands where Bullet Train would have been and will have competition with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 instead of Sony’s Uncharted.
Bullet Train sounds like a fantastic action blockbuster and a summer release could be perfect for it. The new release date for Bullet Train is July 15, 2022.
