Days of Our Lives is shocking fans by bringing back a long-forgotten character. Over the years, the Peacock soap opera has had a revolving door of cast members and characters. Some are more memorable than others. However, it was recently reported that one of those characters will soon be back in the fold and return to Salem for some special scenes. That character is none other than Steve Olson, played by Stephen Schnetzer.
According to Soap Hub, Schnetzer confirmed that he’d been contacted to return to the sudser for the first time since 1980. The role was originated by Flip Mark, who played the role in the 1960. James Carroll Jordan took over the role in 1972 before Schnetzer appeared as Steve, beginning in 1978. Longtime fans of the show may remember that Steve Olson is the brother of both Julie Olson Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) and Hope Williams Brady (Kristian Alfonso), per Soap Central.
Hope Brady’s Forgotten Brother Is Returning to Days of Our Lives
“Breaking news. As far as I know, next week I’m flying out to LA…” Stephen Schnetzer told The Locher Room. “I hope I’m not giving anything up, but they’ve asked Steve Olson to come back for a couple of episodes. I’ll say no more than that,” he added.
For Days of Our Lives fans who don’t know, Steve is the son of Addie Horton and Ben Olson. He also shares a mother with Hope, making him her maternal half-brother. Sadly, Hope isn’t currently in Salem. However, due to the recent real-life death of actor Bill Hayes, who played her on-screen father, that could change. Perhaps Hope will return to Salem for her father’s funeral and reconnect with her long-lost brother as well.
Meanwhile, it seems that the actor is excited to return to the character. “In one storyline, I embezzled money from Doug,” Schnetzer remembered of his time on the soap opera. “Steven was a little shady. It took a while to get comfortable in front of the camera. Susan and Bill really held my hand,” he added.
Steve Olson’s return to Days of Our Lives doesn’t have an official return just yet. However, fans are excited to see what his homecoming will bring.
