Today, president and CEO at Marvel Studios Kevin Feige announced big plans for Deadpool’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Deadpool 3.
Marvel Studios Preps Up for Deadpool 3
Ever since the 20th Century Fox acquisition, the legacy of Ryan Reynolds’ foul-mouthed super mercenary has remained quiet. While Disney took in an array of properties, the Deadpool series was largely in question due to its R-rating. Some suspected the character might have to tone down his humor in order to fight alongside the MCU roster. Now, expectations have surpassed: Deadpool 3 will retain its R-rating as the MCU welcomes Ryan Reynolds’ spectacular take on the comic book merc with a mouth. As aforementioned, Kevin Feige confirmed the news with a statement:
It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”
Sister writers Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin and Wendy Molyneux are developing the script for Deadpool 3, as the recent news could potentially shift the story to greater heights. While it is true that we won’t see Deadpool 3 for some time, that’s not to say that we could see Deadpool pop up in random MCU entries. An antihero with his unique style of meta-humor would be a fine fit for cameos in the MCU. Future projects such as Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange 2 are great examples – but we shall wait and see.
We’re certainly happy to see that Deadpool 3 will be R-rated for its MCU installment! What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below!
