A Delaware doctor, Jessica Lowe, calls out patients who allegedly think she’s stealing someone’s job because she’s an immigrant from the Bahamas. She begins the TikTok by asking, “Do you guys know someone whose job I stole as an immigrant? Because apparently that’s what I’m doing.” Her video is to explain how people react when they hear traces of her accent.
Jessica states that while she’s from the Bahamas, she’s been in America for a long time. To the point that she has nearly perfected the accent. However, she says, “Every so often a patient will catch a little something of it.” When this happens, patients are quick to point it out and ask her where she’s from. She’s always quick to answer, because “it’s a wonderful talking point.” Normally, patients love it. They will start telling her about their vacations to the Bahamas or how they know someone from Jamaica. Jessica says, “Tell me about how you swam with the dolphins in 1983. I wanna hear all about it.”
However, every so often, there’s one patient who says, “Oh, you’re one of them.” She claims this is a direct quote. Jessica will push for clarity. Then she’s allegedly told, “One of the people stealing our jobs.” When she hears this, she asks them, “Do you know someone who can do my job?” Jessica is referring to her position as a double board-certified neurologist and epileptologist. Furthermore, she asks if they do know someone with those qualifications; she’d love to have their resumes, as healthcare is always in need of more doctors. While these moments are disheartening, Jessica’s proud of where she comes from and grateful to the communities that have welcomed her. Her video has over 307,000 views and over 45,000 likes.
Many React To Delaware Doctor’s Video
Jessica’s video has sparked an interesting mix of reactions in the comments. Some physicians have backed her, saying, “We are sooooo in need of more healthcare workers, like bring them all in, WE NEED YOU!” Others encourage her not to listen to those patients, arguing that “we do not have enough doctors, so please stay right here.” However, a few are dying to know what happened next: “And how did they respond? I need closure 😂.”
Meanwhile, others are baffled by someone saying that to her. One person says, “That is a wild thing to say. They are brainwashed.” Several call out the difficulties of finding and filling jobs. One commenter says, “My job was vacant for a whole year before I filled it…But I guess I stole someone’s job.” Another adds, “Well, I was giving my job away at one point in exchange to be a housewife and LITERALLY nobody took me up on my offer.”
Jessica has been one of Delaware’s top doctors two years in a row, and won the state’s 2025 Woman of Impact Honor.
