Demon Slayer is currently breaking records with its current Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train. Its unstoppable force continuous on, as its manga creates a big name for the series. Oricon, a Japanese known company that provides ranking and charts on music CDs, DVDs, electronic games, and other entertainment products, has ranked Demon Slayer on its manga chart. On its top 20 best selling manga chart, the series occupied 20.
According to Oricon’s website, Koyoharu Gotouge’s masterpiece dominated their best selling manga chart. It occupies the Top 20, and actually, all Demon Slayer Manga’s 22 volumes are sitting on the top 22 out of the full Top 30 Oricon manga sales chart. This is the first-ever monopoly of 22 listings that has happened to the chart, which goes to show the series’ infamy.
Keep in mind though that Oricon only has the records of physical copies of the manga and does not track digital copies. According to them, it already sold around 90.52 million copies of the manga. Its latest release, volume 22, already sold an estimated 326,000 copies in Japan from October 19 to October 25 alone. Another installment is about to break on December 4, volume 23 – the final one is expected to break another record and make history in the land of the rising sun.
Demon Slayer is also setting records with its movie Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train as it breaks the box office and became the best opening weekend in Japan. As of this writing, it already earned 15.7 billion Yen in just 17 days. It already exceeded Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering With You‘s entire lifetime run, Japan’s biggest film in 2019. A release date is already set in the west for early 2021 with the high hopes that things will get better in North America.
Demon Slayer also has two games slated for 2021 in Japan. One is Demon Slayer: Keppü Kengeki Royale, a battle-type survival action mobile game where players are divided into Demon Slayer Corps or human eating Demons. The second one is Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hinokami Keppütan, a PlayStation 4 game that follows the anime’s story.
