Junya Ishizaki, Elden Ring Nightreign Director, has shared more details about the highly anticipated multiplayer game in an interview with a Japanese media outlet, Famitsu. The man said the game is an online cooperative action where three players must work together to survive for three days. There will be a night and day cycle with bosses appearing during the nights.
Before taking the mantle of Elden Ring Nightreign Director, the man was Elden Ring‘s combat designer. Near the end of the title’s development, Hidetaka Miyazaki offered him a chance to direct a new game. Director Ishizaki decided to focus the allocated resources on revamping the game design rather than creating everything from scratch. That’s why players can see many assets from previous Souls games, the main inspiration being Elden Ring.
Each multiplayer session in Elden Ring Nightreign will consist of three days and nights. During the day, players can explore the world to find new gear, runes, experience, and other upgrades. When the night arrives, you need to ready yourself for a boss battle. This cycle will repeat three times, with the final boss appearing during the third night.
Although Elden Ring Nightreign is designed to be played by three people, Director Ishizaki still aims to make it possible for the game to be played alone. He knows that some people want to enjoy the game at their own pace and want to prioritize players’ freedom. However, he also warned that the game’s content is challenging enough for three players, so lone wolves must be extra careful.
According to Director Ishizaki, the story is set in a parallel world where the Shattering still occurs in the Lands Between. However, that is the only similarity between these two games. The man wants to tell a completely new story based on this premise. “I think that players who have played Elden Ring will feel it is fresh, and conversely, even if you have never played the game at all, I think you will enjoy this work,” Director Ishizaki said.
