The interaction button may not work, so keep chasing the animal until it stops and you can feed it. Secondly, you cannot feed an animal of the same color more than once every 24 hours. Therefore, having fed, for example, a white rabbit, you can do it again only after a day. Another essential feature is that each animal has a favorite food. Although you can feed any food in your inventory to an animal, their favorite food will give you the best rewards after feeding the animal:
