Doctor Who has just revealed the trailer for its Easter special. The upcoming episode is titled “Legend of the Sea Devils.” The official account for Doctor Who shared the trailer on social media. After that, the trailer was met with positive responses from fans about the premise and excitement for Jodie Whittaker’s performance.
In the synopsis shared by the BBC last week, the ocean-bound special will see the Doctor and her companions come “face to fin with one of the Doctor’s oldest adversaries: the Sea Devils.” The BBC also promises an epis swashbuckling adventure for the Doctor and her companions. Together, they must stop the threats brought to Earth by Madam Ching accidentally awakening the Sea Devils. This episode will also be the final episode of Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor, though she has two more specials remaining.
Doctor Who Special: What We Can Expect From the Doctor
The first “Legend of the Sea Devils” episode is expected to be a standalone story where the Doctor and her friends travel back to nineteenth-century China to confront the Sea Devils. Those who are long-time Doctor Who fans know that the Sea Devils are classic villains for the show. As they were first introduced in the 1970s, the Sea Devils and their cousin species, the Silurians, were the species to evolve on Earth. They first placed themselves in cryogenic suspension to survive, and the systems to wake them up never activated.
The trailer hides just as much as it reveals, as it does not reveal the true motive of the Sea Devils or Madam Ching. Many have speculated that it will be to reclaim the planet they called home, but there is no confirmation of this so far. There is also a glimpse of light in the sky, possibly indicating that the creatures have released some kind of Terraforming technology, with the Doctor hinting that time itself is in a flux.
Doctor Who‘s next Easter special ‘Legend of the Sea Devils’ premieres on April 17th on BBC America. Currently, seasons 1-12 are available to stream on HBO Max.
